Today, a viral news story circulates, recounting the tale of an SDM who left her husband, a diligent fourth-grade government employee, after he selflessly supported her during her preparation for the UPSC exam. He dedicated himself to her studies, serving as a steadfast pillar for her aspirations. Eventually, she successfully cleared the UPSC exam with an impressive ranking within the top 20. Following her training at LBSNAA, she was assigned a position as a DM and began a contented life with her two daughters and her husband, residing in their official accommodation.”
One day, he became aware of her attempts to betray him, prompting him to initiate an investigation in an effort to salvage their relationship. He discreetly followed their movements and eventually caught them red-handed at a luxurious hotel in Lucknow. The evidence witnessed by his own eyes confirmed the betrayal she had committed. She was in a compromising position with her lover, Manish Dube, a commanding officer in the guard division. He pleaded with her to reconsider and distance herself from the morally questionable officer, but she remained resolute, ultimately filing for divorce. In an attempt to manipulate the situation, she utilized her authority as an SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate), issuing threats that he should retract his statements and remain silent, or face dire consequences. Seeking justice, he sought assistance from several officials, yet none assured him of a fair resolution. However, when the media caught wind of the incident, they raised their voices, and the case spread throughout the country like wildfire.
This particular case had a profound impact on society, especially on women who aspire to pursue their dreams after marriage. It instilled fear in people, leading them to restrict their daughters-in-law or wives from pursuing education and following their aspirations. However, it is important to recognize that just because one fish is dirty in a pond, it does not imply that all fish are dirty, even though the pond may be contaminated. Similarly, while this incident may tarnish the image of the SDM department, it does not mean that all officers possess the same mentality.
If one achieves a high position in life, it is crucial to refrain from engaging in actions that reflect poorly on one’s character, work ethic, responsibilities, and education, as people tend to emulate those they admire or look up to.
